**UPDATE: 5K RUN/WALK CANCELLED**

Dear 5K Run/Walk Registrants,

Due to extremely slick ice conditions and a lack of snow cover, we have made the decision to cancel this year's Frozen Assets 5K Run/Walk. We waited as late in the week as we could to see if conditions would improve. Safety has always been our number one concern, and along with our race production partners, we feel the ice, without any snow cover, is too slick to hold our race.

We still invite you to come down to The Edgewater on Saturday morning to receive your neck gaiter and free beer, courtesy of Michelob Ultra inside the ON-ICE warming and beverage tent. We will NOT have a pre-packet pick-up on Thursday night as originally planned.

Finally, we want to make sure you come back NEXT year to compete in this race. Therefore we will be sending you an entry code next winter for FREE entry into the 2019 5K Run/Walk.

The rest of the Frozen Assets Festival is ON - ice thickness is fantastic. Please join us for free sleigh rides, hot chocolate, s'mores, pond hockey, curling, and more. Also, be sure to look for Kites over Mendota AND ice boat racing on Saturday and Sunday!

Thanks so much for your understanding, and your support of Clean Lakes Alliance.

*****

Join Clean Lakes Alliance for our Frozen Assets 5K, America's only 5K on a frozen lake!

Take a break from the hilly pavement and bring your stride to the ice. In this 5K race, participants will run or walk across the ice on iconic Lake Mendota with beautiful views of downtown Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. The course will start and end at The Edgewater. Medals will be awarded to our top finishers. Best of all, your registration supports work to protect and improve water quality in our lakes!

After the race, grab a free Michelob ULTRA beer and warm up with hot chocolate and s'mores out on the ice at the Frozen Assets Festival. There will be free family-friendly activities all day, including ice skating, sleigh rides, ice science and more, including the return of "Kites on Mendota."

The Festival
The fourth annual Frozen Assets Festival, a family-friendly daytime event to be held indoors and outdoors at The Edgewater, will run throughout the weekend of Friday, February 2nd through Sunday, February 4th. As always, the Festival will be FREE and open to all. Learn more at www.cleanlakesalliance.org/frozen-assets

Please contact Clean Lakes Alliance Director of Marketing & Development Adam Sodersten at adam@cleanlakesalliance.org to learn more about becoming a sponsor. Sponsorships cover both the evening fundraiser and the daytime festival. As always, all event proceeds benefit our work to reduce phosphorus pollution to our lakes!

Please note: Clean Lakes Alliance will make every effort to hold this event, while keeping safety in mind for all competitors. Should the ice be deemed unsafe 24 hours ahead of the event, the event will be cancelled, with entrance fees being considered a tax-deductible donation to Clean Lakes Alliance.
