**UPDATE: FAT BIKE RACE CANCELLED**
Dear Fat Bike Race Registrants,
Due to extremely slick ice conditions and a lack of snow cover, we have made the decision to cancel this year's Frozen Assets Fat Bike Race. We waited as late in the week as we could to see if conditions would improve. Safety has always been our number one concern, and along with our race production partners, we feel the ice, without any snow cover, is too slick to hold our race.
We still invite you to come down to The Edgewater on Friday evening to receive your headlamp and free beer, courtesy of Michelob Ultra inside the ON-ICE warming and beverage tent. We will NOT have a pre-packet pick-up on Thursday night as originally planned.
Finally, we want to make sure you come back NEXT year to compete in this race. Therefore we will be sending registrants an entry code next winter for FREE entry into the 2019 Fat Bike Race.
The rest of the Frozen Assets Festival is ON - ice thickness is fantastic. Please join us for free sleigh rides, hot chocolate, s'mores, pond hockey, curling, and more. Also, be sure to look for Kites over Mendota AND Ice Boat racing on Saturday and Sunday!
Thanks so much for your understanding, and your support of Clean Lakes Alliance.
Join Clean Lakes Alliance for our second annual Frozen Assets Fat Bike Race on Lake Mendota!
In this NIGHT race, participants will cruise across the ice on iconic Lake Mendota and pass by downtown Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. The race will start and end at the Edgewater. Choose from a single lap, 4.25 mile course or a three lap, 12.75 mile course.
Your registration for this event includes:
- Admission to the Fat Bike, Open, or Junior division with chip timing
- FREE powerful Rayovac L.E.D. headlamp with strap from our presenting sponsor
- FREE beer at the finish courtesy of Michelob ULTRA (for ages 21+)
Best of all, your registration supports work to protect and improve water quality in our lakes!
Fat Bike Race: 4.25 or 12.75 mile course, Fat Bikes only
Open Ride: 4.25 mile course, ANY bike welcome. Have fun and try your favorite bike on the ice!
Junior Ride: 4.25 mile course, ages 10 - 16, any bike welcome
Top finishers in all divisions will get medals.
Fat bikes are generally defined as 3.8 inches or wider. We suggest 3 inches minimum to compete in the Fat Bike division.
Adult Registration Pricing (17 and older)
Early Bird Price: $40.00 through January 3rd
Regular Price: $50.00 through January 31st
Day-of Registration: $50.00
Tickets are transferrable and non-refundable. We look forward to joining you on the ice!
See below for the planned race route. The 12.75-mile competitors will complete three laps. Race organizers reserve the right to alter the course due to factors including but not limited to ice conditions and weather
Competitors may park at The Edgewater ($5 event parking) or in City of Madison parking garages. You may access the ice down The Edgewater outdoor stairs, indoors through The Edgewater, at the end of N. Carroll street to the west, and from James Madison Park to the east.
The fourth annual Frozen Assets Festival, a family-friendly daytime event to be held indoors and outdoors at The Edgewater, will run throughout the weekend of Friday, February 2nd through Sunday, February 4th. As always, the Festival will be FREE and open to all. Learn more at www.cleanlakesalliance.org/frozen-assets.
Please contact Clean Lakes Alliance Director of Marketing & Development Adam Sodersten at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more about becoming a sponsor. Sponsorships cover both the evening fundraiser and the daytime festival. As always, all event proceeds benefit our work to reduce phosphorus pollution to our lakes!
Please note: Clean Lakes Alliance will make every effort to hold this event, while keeping safety in mind for all competitors. Should the ice be deemed unsafe 24 hours ahead of the event, the event will be cancelled, with entrance fees being considered a tax-deductible donation to support our lakes.
